What is Acupressure?   How can it help me?

Acupressure is an ancient healing art that uses the fingers to gradually press key healing points along the surface of the body.    Acupressure was developed in Asia over 5,000 years ago.

The pressure applied to Acupressure points help stimulate the body's natural self-curative abilities.

Acupressure Therapy helps to release muscular tension, promote circulation of blood and enhance the body's life force energy to aid in healing.

Using the power and sensitivity of the hand, Acupressure Therapy is effective in the relief of stress-related ailments and is ideal for preventative health care because of it's amazing ability to boost the Immune System.  By relieving stress, Acupressure Therapy strengthens resistance to disease and promotes an overall sense of well-being.

Acupressure Therapy can be used to relieve pain, increase energy levels, detoxify the body for greater health.  Acupressure Therapy is also used for beauty benefits to tone facial muscles.  When used with Gua Sha ( see below for Gua Sha benefits) it can lift and tone the facial muscles.

What is Gua Sha?    How can it help me?

Gua Sha Back photo.jpg

Gua Sha dates back 700 years ago, to the era of the Ming Dynasty, though,  the practice is thought to be much older than that, perhaps having been discovered in prehistoric times as the simple reflex of rubbing a painful area to make the pain go away.

The term Gua Sha is comprised of two Chinese words: Gua, meaning to rub or scrape, and Sha, a type of stagnant energy that causes excess heat to build within the body.  Taken together, the term Gua Sha means the act of rubbing the skin to remove an energy blockage.  According to traditional Chinese medicine theory, by bringing heat to the skin surface, Gua Sha, releases the blocked energy and heat.

One of the original forms of physical therapy, Gua Sha is widely used to treat joint and muscle pain.

Traditionally applied in accordance with the meridians, or energy channels of the body, many patients in China and other parts of Asia also use Gua Sha as a form of preventive medicine and a first line of defense against illness.

Gua Sha has been used to treat a wide range of both acute and chronic health conditions including headache,  pain (back, neck, shoulders, arms, legs, etc.) digestive disorders, asthma, and respiratory infections, insomnia, general fatigue, women’s health issues, as well as anti-aging facial lifts.

Gua Sha used for Facial Treatments, is a well kept secret used by many celebrities for anti-aging, a face lift (without surgery) by increasing the blood flow to stimulate new collagen and elastin.   It breaks up the facia under the skin that contributes to the appearance of wrinkles.   Click here to learn more about the Gua Sha Facelift >  The Gua Sha Facial

As an Acupressure /Gua Sha Practitioner, I use Gua Sha in combination with Acupressure.

What is Auriculotherapy?      How can it help me?

ear.png

Auriculotherapy has gained widespread fame in Asia as well as European countries.  Ancient records point to this method in 500 B.C. in China.  The therapy was founded by a Frenchman, Dr. Paul Nogier who found that the points on the outer ear has connections with the internal organs.

The process can involve acupuncture using needles... or in recent times, the ear is stimulated by means of lasers, Vaccaria seeds, even magnets to apply pressure on specific points of the ear.

In our practice, we use Vaccaria seeds, which are placed on specific points on the ear, used like acupuncture, where we apply the seeds that are taped onto the ear (which can stay in place 3 - 5 days) and the patient can touch the area/the Vaccaria seed,  to apply pressure, while at home between sessions.

Vaccaria seeds are small and less noticeable when placed on the ear(s).  They have no side effects, painless, drug-free and the patients receive prolonged benefits.

There are more than 150 conditions that can be treated with Auriculotherapy.  Some of the common ones include:

Back pain, Headache/Migraine, Shoulder Pain, Sciatica, Nausea, Arthritis Pain, Allergies, Dry Mouth, Depression, Stress, Anxiety,  Stop Smoking (it reduces withdrawal symptoms and cravings of nicotine), and many more.
